Berlin-based outfit Jembaa Groove return with “Be A Lover”, a four-track EP set for full release on 18 September. Following two critically acclaimed albums and an intensive period of touring across Europe and the US — including a SXSW showcase and a widely acclaimed KEXP session — this latest release marks a new chapter in the band’s trajectory. Built around highlife rhythms and shaped by Afro-jazz and the more organic edges of Afrobeats, “Be A Lover” unfolds with a warm, languid and deeply soulful feel, capturing different strands of today’s multifaceted Afrofusion scene.

Here, the band strips back from a seven-piece ensemble to its two founding members, while at the same time opening outward into a deeply collaborative space. At its centre is a close creative partnership with celebrated Nigerian highlife revivalists The Cavemen., alongside contributions from London-based, Nigerian born soul artist Azekel, Lagos vocalist Tim Lyre, and Malian icon Fatoumata Diawara.

The EP will be rolled out gradually, with each track released individually ahead of the full release in September, alongside a busy run of summer dates across Europe.

Recorded live in South London with his tight-knit band including long-standing collaborators and UK jazz trombonist Rosie Turton, “Tum Tum Tum” is a free flowing, warm, expansive and fully assured album, his 8th to date and exudes a playfulness, a sense of someone who is truly in their element and at peace when writing and recording.

The first single “Egum Eô” is a wonderfully Brazilian opening and sets the scene perfectly with MOMO.’s vocal sounding much like the album’s title ‘Tum Tum Tum’, pushing the positivity sky high in unison with a gorgeous horn hook. The broken groove slowly rolls in like a curling surf-perfect wave before the band all join the jam leaving the listener joyfully entranced.

Kay Slice’s music is more than meets the ear. He channels a movement. His sound moves beyond borders, blending highlife rhythms and poetic verses into a sonic force that connects the soul of Africa with its scattered children across the globe. Slice is rooted in legacy but speaks to the now. Bold, layered, and deeply aware.

From the electrifying grooves of West Africa to the sharp truths of hip-hop, Kay’s music isn’t merely entertainment; it’s a cultural awakening. Leo Middea’s trajectory took a dramatic twist in 2015, when he was just 20 years old, leaving behind his family and his guitar for India where he would spend some much-needed time taking stock and meditating on a silent retreat, following the loss of his father. His debut album “Dois” had released the previous year but music was the last thing on his mind during this revolutionary recharge.

Fast forward to 10 years and Leo prepares for his 6th album, and follows a whirlwind year of touring, from his base in Barcelona, Spain. In 2024 he was a finalist and runner up in the Portuguese Song Festival, Portugal’s’ national TV talent show – a first for a Brazilian. Non-stop touring in Europe in 2025 also included a stop off at the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival, a milestone in Leo’s career to date.

It’s exactly 20 years since Mop Mop’s “The 11th Pill” turned up on our turntables, a gorgeous slice of Italian made, jazz fusion that blossomed in the era when West London’s broken beat was in the ascendancy. Since Andrea Benini’s breakout, he has released regularly on Agogo Records yet his recent releases have been sparse. “In the past few years I just took time for me and people around me. I’ve moved back to Italy after sixteen years of Berlin. I went back to my hometown, Cesena to build my own production studios in a big factory with other artists”. Long players “Isle of Magic” (2013) and “Lunar Love” (2016) catapulted Mop Mop to wider audiences helped with ongoing DJ support from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Toshio Matsuura and Michael Ruetten.

Andrea first heard Laìz’s flow from her debut album “Ela Partiu” (2024), much inspired by Tim Maia and also on Agogo Records. He quickly requested a collaboration and in just a few weeks, Laìz packed her bags and landed in Cesena to record her vocal take. “The beats you hear in “Heat Up” are made by using some of my analog drum machines (I am a collector). I’ve used a very old Soviet drum synthesizer called Elsita which I’ve synchronized with a German drum machine called MFB Tanzbär and the Vermona DRM1. On top of that you can hear some organic Clap and the original Simmons Clap Trap from the early 80´s”.

Buckle up, this is a brand new trip for Mop Mop. Don’t expect any specific genre stops en route. As ever, it’s all about groove. And all the better for it.
